I am proud to be a Rio Vista Titan! I have been teaching 7th and 8th grade Language Arts for the last 24 years, 17 years at El Capitan Middle School and 7 years at Rio Vista Middle School.
As a teacher, I am driven by the following quote: "To inspire meaningful change, you must make a connection to the heart before you can make a connection to the mind." -George Couros
I adore my students and strive to make a difference in their lives. I set high expectations for them, and they rise to those expectations. I pride myself on being firm, fair, consistent, and caring in my classroom.
My students have three academic goals during the year: 1 - to gain a better understanding of the Common Core Standards, 2 - to earn a grade of 'C' or higher, and 3 - to pass all IABs / Performance Tasks.
I graduated from San Joaquin Memorial High School in 1987. I then earned my Bachelor's Degree in Business Accounting at California State University, Fresno in 1991 followed by a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Supplemental Credentials in English and Business.
In my spare time, I enjoy going to movies, traveling, playing tennis, and spending time with friends and family.
I love spending extra time with my students and getting to know them as individuals. I believe life is all about goals and dreams and that teaching is about making those goals and dreams come true!
